Contrasts
One of my favorite nearby places is Linville Gorge. Except in the summer, you can sometimes locate a spot free of other people. One overnight trip I'm pretty sure that I had the whole gorge to myself. I neither saw nor heard anyone for two days. The weather on that trip was chilly and dreary which probably kept a lot of other hikers and backpackers out of the wilderness.
But I like these two photos for showing the contrasts of just a few months' time in the gorge. One was taken in Fall and the second a few weeks later in the grips of winter.
