High Country Places

Just a some spots I've passed in my wanderings through the high country of my native South. It's been far too long since I've gone hiking or backpacking. Carole and I haven't even had time to go camping in our travel trailer because of my writing commitments of the past year and because we spent so much of our vacation effort going to Yellowstone last year.

I really need to get back up to my mountains. I miss them terribly.

Really great photos. What waterfall is that?

The big one is Linville Falls in the Linville Gorge Wilderness. I recall that me and you and Terrell used to talk about going backpacking in there. Since it's only about an hour and a half drive from my place, I go there several times a year, sometimes to backpack. I've never spent more than one night/two days in at a time, though.

The smaller of the two falls I'm going to have to look up the name. It's at the base of Mount Mitchell, the east's highest peak. Nice waterfall, not visited that much. Near an old CCC camp called Busick.
