Well, I'm laid up here with a still-bum knee and messed up back. Daydreaming about the mountains. So all I can do is review photos from older hikes. One of my favorite hiking destinations remains Linville Gorge Wilderness.
So, here are a few shots from a hike a couple years ago on the Table Rock side of the gorge.
This is a spot called "The Chimneys" of Linville Gorge. As with so many other names in the southern Appalachians, there are literally scores of rock formations with the name "The Chimneys". In every state I can think of in the South. If there are some mountains with some perpendicular rock formations and sheer cliffs, you will likely find one of them called "the Chimneys".
I climbed most of the way up onto the summit of the highest of The Chimneys to get this shot. I didn't go all the way up, but the next time I'm there I will do so.
