Random Shots

Random photographs of our trip to North Bend State Park (and environs).

Andy musing in front of our campfire the first night of our trip.

Our campsite. We had a nice site beside the river.

One of the tunnels along the North Bend Rail Trail that Carole and I biked.

An abandoned church playground. I see lots of abandoned places around my travels. But for some reason West Virginia seems to have more than its fair share of abandoned places like this one.

Carole actually took a photo of me! This was coming out of one of the longer tunnels along the rail trail.

The white-tailed deer were--quite literally--as thick as cockroaches in Brunswick. But we kept wondering where all of the bucks were. It was only after downloading this photo that I realized this deer was a button buck.

We were stunned at the number of small oil wells all over this part of West Virginia. Some were sitting in the yards of people who very obviously were NOT rich. Which goes to prove that industry will exploit anyone--no matter where they live or what they have.

This was a particularly nasty looking abandoned factory in Moundsville, WV. In the midst of being (slowly, apparently) demolished.

Self-portrait taken on the Ohio side of the Ohio River. As I get older, I find myself actually getting to explore this nation into which I was born. I look forward to seeing much more of it as I wind down this mortal coil.

More later...

Thanks! We had a great time on this trip. West Virginia is one of our favorite states to visit. (Even if one of the photos was taken in Ohio looking across the river at West Virginia.

I had a couple of close calls, though!
