Cool Hiker Blog

Tired and drained from my job. Summer does that to me.

I've been too busy working on the novel to muck about with my blog, but I would like to draw your attention to this blog:

Hiker Hell.

It's a cautionary bad news blog concerning screw-ups by hikers and climbers around the continent. I like it because, along with the morons, you get stories of mistakes made by otherwise prudent and experienced outdoorsmen. One must always be careful when spending time far from help and the comforts of modern medicine.

One of my first self-portraits on a solo hiking trip in 2004. That cliff is just as high as it seems in that photo. If I'd slipped (I was being extremely careful), no one would have known for quite some time. I seemed to have the park all to myself that day. And that vulture soaring just above the bill of my cap would have had a meal.

Hey, Bob. I'll pass the link to a few hikers and bicyclists I know. Of course, now I'll have to do a blog on how I cracked my knee taking photos in the ruins of Miami Bowl. That's what writers do, make other writers write.
