Today I returned to the patch of green to measure the old giant:
It measured an amazing 18 feet and 3 inches in circumference. It's not a typical tree, with three tops sprouting from a main trunk (and may be, in fact, two or three fused trees), but it's still an amazing sight to come upon this huge tree in such an urban environment.

Nice to see the P.O. has you wearing your fair weather uniform. Beautiful tree.
ReplyDeleteHEY! That was lame! When I saw it was a movie I thought you were going to Lord-of-The-Dance around the tree! Or recite "Woodman Spare That Tree"! Where's the drama? Where's the ZING?!?
ReplyDeleteI thought about doing something along those lines! (Well, vaguely.)
ReplyDeleteHowever, keep in mind that this patch of woods is quite small. Adjacent to it is a high-dollar condo development with many windows looking down on the errant mailman wandering into the forest. Imagine what would have happened if they'd seen me dancing! YOW! At the very least, I'd have been grilled by the station manager when I returned later in the day.

ReplyDeleteWinter is short-lived here in the South. The day I "discovered" the tree, it was quite cold and windy. Two days later, returning to measure the circumference, it was warm and fair.
